About the Institute

Our mission is to ensure that all Canadians have the historical and civic knowledge they need to participate in society as active and informed citizens.
The Institute was founded in 1997 by a group of young people concerned about the state of Canada's public memory and its effect on informed discourse.

Since its founding, the Institute has focused its efforts on conducting original research into Canadians' knowledge of the country's past and building innovative programs, like the Great Canadian Questions - that broaden appreciation of the richness and complexity of Canadian history.

The Dominion Institute is a national, non-partisan, charitable organisation.
